Who is she?
Samantha Bee is a Canadian-American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actress, and host of Full Frontal. The show won an Emmy Award in 2017 and has been nominated several times in its short series history. Previously, Samantha Bee was the longest-serving correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, while also making guest appearances and cameos in dozens of TV shows and movies.
What does she do?
She has been the host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee since 2016. Full Frontal offers something that is undeniably different than other primetime, late-night, and cable comedy shows. Perhaps what most stands out to those who watch the show is the incredible energy and pace Bee brings to her show. As a testament to the writers’ clarity as well as Bee’s unique combination of charisma and enunciation, there are times in which you’re astounded by how much you’re able to take in in such a short time.
Her comedy always has a purpose and an ethos. And while interviews aren’t a regular part of the show, Bee does have a knack for attracting big-name interviewees and compelling interviews, whether it’s sitting down with President Obama or Glenn Beck.
In addition to Full Frontal, Bee is the co-creator and executive producer of The Detour.
In 2017, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. There is a sense of that the show’s edginess—and the show is edgy—is built on something of a high-wire act. In the summer of 2018, the show had its first medium-sized controversy when Bee referred to Ivanka Trump as a “feckless c—.” Yet, there’s also a sense that, after three years, this show has staying power, that it isn’t going anywhere, and that its platform and format hasn’t explored all its possibilities yet. Plus, there’s no denying that Samantha Bee is incredibly funny. Especially for a Canadian. Like way funnier than that Ryan Reynolds guy.
